Below is a picture of scrap checker plate that followed me home, the bigger bits are outside

Must be scared of Moggy as no pictures have been sent

At least I am willing to share ideas

Oh, me thinks you may have a source "close-to-home" or as we often say, perhaps while at work, you've been working on foreigners!!!

Over the last few weeks I have been playing with welding checker plate
When my ignition decided to disintigrate, I thought, why not make a checker plate steering colum cover,

This was my first attempt at alloy welding, I am happy with the way it has turned out.

Long story short, made a box, cut in half, fitted everything inside, and put it in Moggy,

The second light switch is for the spot lights

looks brilliant  8), great work for a first time at alloy, did you use a mig with alloy wire or a tig welder? I have had a go at both at tafe but kind of failed at my first go  ;D

Very nice work AC !! Clean welding.

You should now do something like a cover for that speaker, it looks not checkered enough !!!

What's the switch on the black steering "thing" for ? (the one close to the tray)

Gidday All,

Thanks for the comments

Darth, the switch in the steering column support os just a old switch I had for the spot lights, I have not bothered to remove it as yet, I actual fact I just forgot it as I was blinded by checker plate.

MMM, checker plate speaker cover, thanks for that, will have to wait on the list of checker plate projects,

AC,
I have a set of checkerplate speaker surrounds. "Check" a prev post of mine. In the Swapmeet I think. They have your name written all over them.

Cheers, Sus

Sus, have you got a picture ??????

Also out of the 2 inch square bit of checker plate I won a few weeks ago, I made a key Ring to suite the new ignition.

Stiggy, I used a mig 135 gas/ gassless with argon gas and alloy wire. I had a few other bit of scrap alloy around, spend 1/2 day teaching myself how to do it before actually doing it. In hindsight afterwads, I would have done things slightly different however it is alsways the story after doing any project

Darth, Clean welding, no it was not, used a grinder with alloy cutting wheel and a shitload of filing and sandiing to get it smooth

As I ran out of Gas for Steel hence why production on the pedal car ceased,

however I have a large bottle for alloy welding,

I decided not to waste a moment of no little missy being around and commence work.

I made two unique checker plate items for Moggy.

The first is a tool box that sits under the rear checker plate speaker area. It is old bent checker plate that would be near impossible to get to any presentable condition, Handle for the top and lock will be fitted later.

A few weeks ago while I was checking the technical aspects of the engine (fart-arsing under the bonnet) I accidently cracked the windscreen washer bottle, It is over 10 years old and the pump was buggered as well. Therefore the next checker plate project to which I day say no moke has is a checker plate windscreen washer reservoir.

Custom made including the side fluid level indicator, and the screw top. All I have to purchase is a new pump, connect it up and I am finished
