« on: February 09, 2011, 10:48:03 PM »
I have a '78 moke that has no side screens and I would like to fit them. Just wondering where you get them from!

Thanks

If you want later model ones (straight) I think Terry has/had a stash. My 78 has the ones with the bend in them. I used an old one to make a stencil with some cardboard. Got some perspex (may have been acrylic can't remember, the one that doesn't fade in sun) sheet from local plastics supplier. Then bent them up with a paint remover heat torch. You can use hair drier, but paint stripper a bit better at even heat..

Yup CQ Moke is correct - I think the ones Mavro is referring to is for the 1980-82 Model - the 78 had the perspex ones with the bend in them - there is also some metal trim that goes on them which assists in holding the canopy down.

If I remember back a couple of years I reckon Terry pointed me in the direction of some new ones?   ;)

Thanks - I dont have any trim at all - only the bottom metal channel which is on the body. A couple of the screw pieces that attach to the windscreen are missing but they only pop rivet on as far as I can see. I will ask Terry.

Hi,

For a '78 you should have a right angle piece on the down slope that is welded to the body on each side. Then you should have two extra pieces, again right angles, that screw approximately 3mm from the body pieces and this creates a channel to hold the bottom of the side screens.

If you have anything left of the old ones there should be a U shaped stainless steel strip that goes down the long edge to take the canopy fittings. On the original perspx that was necessary but the Lexan/Polycarb ones are not as brittle and it is nice to have but can be left out or substituted.

I put my last set on a car a couple of weeks ago, so depends on how much of a rush you are in for a new set.

Yes they will but you have to work around the mirror you have mounted on the windscreen frame. They suits up to the 1980+ sidefill Mokes that use the frame posted by Mavro earlier in this thread.

When Shaker posts up what he has you might see the bracket you will also be missing.

G'day Matt,
to fit the early side screens you'll need these brackets
on the body that terry was referring to

plus you'll need these little threaded dohickies that pop rivet to
the windscreen frame to hold the perspex on.

like this..... sorry for the poor example

Plus they usually have a stainless trim that goes down the outside
edge that the clips that secure the canvas doors are fastened to.

hope that helps

Beautiful,

Thank you Smokey, will have to make a pair of brackets (the ones that screw in...) to suit...

Cheers,
Matt
