Actually, Dev shouldn't forget how to do donuts, no matter how long it takes to do Morton - we had mine in and out twice today after a massive failure in one fo the new ones.

We started on the radiator side first, assuming this would be the trickier side and got everything done pretty well. I had chosen the Moulton smootha rides which are a couple of centimeters taller than a standard donut. It was a bit tricky getting the donut in but all worked ok - quite chuffed we were  ;D

Then onto the driver side and everything went like clockwork until a dreaded soft popping noise - no, the thread in the donut hadn't stripped, the whole metal centre had pulled out  :o. Fortuntately we managed to get everything back out even though the was a fair bit of tension on the hi lo from the now demolished donut.

So......onto take 2, and Dev went and got the new donuts he had for Morton, and to cut along story short we now have donut removal and fitting down to a fine art, and Morton is slowly being ressurected, even if it is in the form of his bits being driven around in other Mokes  ::) ;D

I will post up a picture of the culprit donut soon.

Yeah thats a bit ordinary, I have smootha-rides, the Willson's fitted them for me, they had a hell of a time getting them to fit, they couldn't get them into the subframe towers at first. They made a big improvement though.

Definitely send them back to Mini Sport, they are a reputable company so should wear all the costs.

Here is a pic of the donut that collapsed on compression (mind you a fair bit of compression  :-\ )

I still think the smootha rides would be just fine, just a bit of bad luck with this one  :'( and the other side went in with no problems.

As far as getting them in the towers it was awkward but there is an angle they will go in (and come back out) relatively easily and without any force. I must admit the standard ones of Dev's we put in to replace them were a piece of cake in comparison though.

I still have the smootha rides in the back and there were no problems at all fitting those.

Even with standard donuts in the front and the smootha rides in the back the Moke feels heaps better (and safer) on the road to drive now.

Just a bit more feedback on my donut fitting experience.

Dev and I had another go at fitting the Smootha rides to to front again today and all went well this time. Both sides went in with no problems at all, although the driver side (the side that broke the first time) still needed a lot more compression than the passenger side for some reason.

To get them in we compressed the rubber to a strong hand tight compression rate, then assembled the hi lo and knuckle joint into the top arm while it was out of the subframe and maneuvered it back in.

Although the new Smootha rides still need to settle in a bit, it is interesting to compare them with standard donuts. The ones we took out were a brand new set of standard ones I borrowed from Dev and had only been there for a couple of weeks. The Smootha rides do seem a bit smoother, and cornering is certainly softer (but still holds well), but there really isn't too much I can notice over standard donuts. Hmmmmmm.........must double check and see we put the right ones back in  ;) ;)

We should be right for the next Moke service day though, we now have front suspension fitting down to an hour each side  :)

It is going to happen again! Who is in for another service day.

My initial plan will be for Sunday February 13th 2011.

Put up what you need to do and I will try and see if I can put that job together on Morton and then I might know what to do when we get to the service day and work on yours.  No job to big or to small.  well maybe some could be too big but we will have a go at most.

Even just a wash and and a BBQ, be there.

Cheers

Dev

2011 is here and Moke My Day has confirmed his intention to join the service day in Launceston on February 13th.

So who else is coming.  The service day is on, lets make it big and then we can make it a regular event, like the Brisbane boys do.

Cheers

Dev

Service day is still on, I know Lonnie Moke will be working but everyone else is welcome.  I don't know what anyone wants to do yet so we will be open to any job.

Come along, BBQ will be hot and beers and Chardy will be cold.

Cheers

Wow Tim and Ewe know who,

This is great news for you and your flock.   I hope she is settling in well at home and must say I can feel the changes that will be happening in your life.  Good luck and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Cheers
